Celebrating World Menopause Day

Today, Wednesday 18th October, marks World Menopause Day, an occasion dedicated to raising awareness about menopause and promoting support for enhanced health and well-being.

We had the privilege of speaking with Jan, one of our dedicated bodywork therapists, who discussed with us the significance of celebrating World Menopause Day. Jan spoke about it's profound implications and emphasised the importance of normalising menopause and fostering an environment of openness and inclusivity that helps our clients to embrace this phase in their lives.

Menopause is an entirely natural process, representing a biological shift as the body essentially reverses the changes initiated during puberty. This transition typically unfolds in two distinct stages: Perimenopause, which can commonly occur in a person's 40s and last for approximately four years, marked by fluctuating hormone levels and irregular periods; and Postmenopause, usually happening in a person's 50s when ovaries cease releasing eggs, and menstrual cycles come to an end.

In recent years, the conversation surrounding menopause has experienced a positive transformation, largely thanks to the influence of Social Media platforms. There is now a wider dissemination of knowledge and an exchange of personal experiences, dismantling the taboos surrounding this life event.

Like any process in biological development, menopause disrupts the body's homeostasis, giving rise to hormonal changes and their accompanying physical and emotional manifestations. These symptoms may encompass sleep disturbances, temperature irregularities, fatigue, anxiety, joint pain, and muscle discomfort.

Jan explained that bodywork has been proven to have a positive effect on the body and mind, bringing alignment and offering a powerful means of alleviating symptoms associated with menopause, maintaining energy levels while reducing stress and anxiety. Through her own practice and the massage therapy she provides, Jan is positioned to assist our guests in embracing the transformative changes of menopause and instilling a positive perspective on their journey through this phase.

If you find yourself entering this new phase of life and need guidance on what to anticipate and how to embrace this transition, a select group of our skilled bodyworkers are well-prepared to engage in this meaningful conversation during your upcoming appointment.

They can assist you in crafting a personalised bodywork regime aimed at welcoming this challenging phase with strength and acceptance.
