Where are you based?
We’re based at the Gossamer City Project in Hackney. We currently occupy a number of units in the shipping container community, and you can check-in for your treatment or peruse our lovely shop at Unit 20, which is on the ground floor. The nearest station is Cambridge Heath and is on multiple bus routes.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Payment for your treatment can be made online when you book through our secure booking partner Wellness Living (simply click Book above) or in person before or after your treatment. We accept cash and all major credit and debit cards, including American Express.
Can I buy a voucher for a massage?
Absolutely! A MASAJ voucher makes an excellent gift - they are available to purchase at our studio or via our online store or in person at our Wait Space shop.
Can I select a specific therapist?
Yes! When you make your booking through our website, you have the option to select a specific therapist. You can find out more about their strengths and specialities on our About page and, if you’d like any further information about a particular therapist’s style, you can get in touch at email@example.com
Are all your therapists qualified and insured?
Yes. All are qualified via bodies that meet the National Occupational Standards and are members of the Federation of Holistic Therapies, the leading professional association for therapists in the UK. We also ensure all our therapists are covered on our insurance policy, as well as having their own policies with respected industry insurers.
I’m pregnant - is MASAJ suitable for me?
It depends on how far along in your pregnancy you are. If you are in the first trimester (up to 12 weeks), we aren't insured to massage you. If you are in your second or third trimester, massage is highly recommended to aid the aches and pains of carrying a baby.
I have an injury / medical condition - is MASAJ suitable for me?
It is important you communicate this prior to your treatment as we’ll make the decision on a case-by-case basis. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org once you've spoken to your doctor and/or physiotherapist about the ongoing medical issue or injury. Prior to your treatment, your therapist will undertake a thorough consultation where you can discuss any injuries/conditions in detail.
Do you have your own range of products?
We stock a small but beautiful selection of products, both in our Wait Space Shop and online, and are in the process of expanding our own range. Before Your Treatment
What happens if I need to cancel or change my booking?
We hope you understand, being a small business, we have to adhere to a pretty stringent cancellation policy. If you cancel 24 hours in advance or more, then we will refund you in full. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, we charge you 50% of the booking price. If you cancel on the same day as the appointment (from midnight) then we will not refund your booking. We know things out of your control can occur, so please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible to discuss.
Can I extend or adjust my treatment?
Providing there is space to extend your booking, we will always try to welcome that. We believe the longer we have with your body, the more magic we can do. Adjusting your treatment is simple, just ask your therapist at the beginning of your session.
If you want to swap your treatment to reflexology or pregnancy massage, please give the studio a call or email 24 hours in advance as we may have to switch your therapist.
What should I do to prepare for my treatment?
The best thing you can do is arrive at least 10-15 minutes early so you are relaxed and calm as you head into your session. We also highly recommend you aren’t under the influence of anything.
What type of massage is right for me?
That depends on a range of varying factors so we ensure you fill out our comprehensive consultation form and have a thorough chat with your therapist before you get on the MASAJ table. If you are unsure what to go for, book in for the deep tissue (which is the same rate as our other treatments) and have a chat with your therapist prior to your session.
Should I arrive early?
Yes, please do arrive 10-15 minutes before your treatment time. As of May 2019, we have a shiny new Wait Space where you can relax before and after your appointment, complete your consultation form, and select the oil blend you’d like used during your treatment.
Do you have a waiting room?
As of May 2019 we have opened a beautiful new Wait Space and Shop, which is located at Unit 20 within the Gossamer City Project. You’ll check-in for your appointment with one of our studio managers, and have a cosy, relaxing space to wait in pre and post treatment.
During Your Treatment
What happens when I come for a massage?
When you arrive for your treatment at the Wait Space, you’ll be greeted by one of our studio managers and asked to complete a consultation form with questions about your general health and whether there are any issues your therapist should be aware of. You’ll also be asked to select which of our 5 signature oil blends you’d like used during your treatment. Your therapist will then collect you from the Wait Space and show you through to the massage studio, where you’ll run through your consultation form in advance of your treatment. You’ll be left in privacy to undress and make yourself comfortable on the massage table, before your therapist begins your treatment. You will be encouraged by your therapist to relax with some deep breathing exercises, but please do speak to your therapist if you feel too hot or cold, the massage pressure is too hard or light, or if you’re uncomfortable in any way. All that’s left for you to do is lie back, relax and enjoy. At the end of your treatment, your therapist will leave you to change, then offer some aftercare advice and perhaps suggest some stretches or exercises to practice at home. You’ll then be shown back to the Wait Space, where you’ll be offered a drink and the opportunity to relax in our cosy seating area.
What products do you use during treatments?
We blend our own massage oils using sustainably sourced essential and carrier oils, with which we’ve developed five signature scents that you can choose from at the start of your treatment depending on your mood and the type of massage you’d like.
After Your Treatment
Are there any side effects to massage?
Deep Tissue treatments can occasionally leave your muscles feeling slightly achy or fatigued, since it penetrates the uppermost layers. On rare occasions you may even be a little bruised which is generally nothing to worry about, but if the problem persists after 48 hours please don't hesitate to give us a call. Other and more common side effects will include deep inner peace, feeling taller and sleeping deeply :)
How often should I have a massage?
There is no such thing as too much massage! In Ayurvedic culture, a daily massage is encouraged and we highly recommend a monthly massage as a body MOT, or weekly/fortnightly if there is an on-going issue. As with most things, we like to assess what guests need on a case-by-case basis.
I’ve got some feedback on my treatment… how can I get in touch?
Should I talk to my therapist?
We follow your lead. You must do whatever comes naturally or feels right to you. If you want to chat, go right ahead. If you'd rather zone out, we totally understand that too.
Should I wear pants?
All our therapists are trained to towel (and the technique is something we take very seriously), so you are never exposed while on the table. We are used to working with and without pants and, although the latter is slightly easier and obviously allows us to work more closely to the gluteus muscles, we take 100% no judgement on what you decide as the priority is what feels right and most comfortable for you.
Does it matter if I’m on my period?
Absolutely not, but it's definitely helpful for the therapist to know as there are areas in the abdomen and lower back that can be affected by your cycle.
DOES IT MATTER IF I GET… ‘EXCITED’ DURING MY TREATMENT?
It’s totally normal for the power of touch to have this effect, and it’s nothing to worry about at all - however please do communicate with your therapist and let them know. Please also note that all services provided at MASAJ are entirely therapeutic and non-sexual, and any inappropriate requests will not be tolerated by your practitioner or MASAJ.
I HAVEN’T SHAVED MY LEGS / FACE / ARMPITS… DOES THAT MATTER?
It doesn’t matter AT ALL!
I really don’t like having my feet / neck / bum etc. touched - is this okay?
Of course, this is totally fine and very normal! Your massage is completely tailored to you, and as part of your initial consultation, your therapist will ask if there are any areas that you’d prefer not to be massaged.
